Directions to Museu Nacional

The meeting will take place at the Museu Nacional of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (MN/UFRJ), located at Quinta da Boa Vista, São Cristóvão. The MN/UFRJ is about 5,5Km away from downtown, 4 Km from Rio de Janeiro's Bus Station, and 13 Km from Rio de Janeiro's International Airport (see map below). Meeting attendees can get MN/UFRJ using public transport:

- Subway: take line 2 to get São Cristóvão Station. More information at Metrô Rio.
- Bus: several lines reach the MN/UFRJ. Check which one you can take here. If you are departing from the south or central area of Rio de Janeiro, just type "Rua General Herculano Gomes" as arrival address.

Venues & Social Activities

- Oral presentations will take place at the auditorium of the MN/UFRJ Library .
- Poster presentations will take place at the entrance hall of the MN/UFRJ Library.
- The Icebreaker will occur at Exhibition lobby of the MN/UFRJ Palace.

Access to Museum Collections

MN/UFRJ research collections are available to researchers affiliated with recognized institutions. Collections are open weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Those interested in viewing collections before, or after, the symposium should contact respective collection managers.

We will arrange scheduled access to MN/UFRJ vertebrate paleontology on Monday (July 20th, 2015). Pedro Romano will organize the list of visitors and contact the curators. Access the complete information and the list of species available from MN/UFRJ and UFV Collections. After checking the list, please feel free to contact us to schedule your visit. We will receive requests up to June 12th or until we fill the available space for receiving people.

Some people should be interested in visiting the MN/UFRJ collection of living turtles. In this case, each should get in touch directly with Herpetology Session collection manager. Please check the Herpetology Session visitation guidelines and/or access MN/UFRJ Collections of Reptiles and Amphibians website.

Researchers who want to bring fossils with them for comparative study must have official loan documents or similar paperwork. Otherwise it is possible to face customs problems entering/leaving Brazil.

Precautions and Useful informations

Entry Visa: Most people can enter Brazil using tourist permission, but some citizens might need visa. Brazilian government often uses reciprocity rule to citizens from countries that require visa for Brazilian citizens. Check your consulate site to confirm all documentation you need to enter Brazil.

Arriving at Rio: If you will be arriving at Tom Jobim International Airport (also called "Galeão" Airport) and will be staying in South Zone of the City, we recommend you to take the Special Buses Lines that departure from Galeão, Check informations about it here.

Language and communication: Despite the Rio de Janeiro be a tourist town, most people (including service providers) do not speak English.

Currency: Brazil's currency is the Real (R$). Check Central Bank of Brazil for currency conversion.

AC power plugs and voltage: Brazil adopted in 2010 the Brazilian standard NBR 14136 (Type N) sockets. The voltage in Rio de Janeiro is 127 volts.

Weather: The climate of Rio de Janeiro is of mild temperatures during July, with daily mean of 21.3°C (70.3°F). The average relative humidity is 77% and is a time of low rainfall. Check CPTEC/INEP Weather forecast.

Field trip: Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended for those who will participate the Field Trip. Check more health information for travelers to Brazil in Centers for Disease Control and Prevention site.
